Peacemaker: Is he back yet? Did you see what he put on?

Vendetta: The mental manipulation repel artifact.

I wake resting on the floor of my room in an uncomfortable sprawl. A mild ache pulses at my temples and my face is stiff with dried blood.

The mental repel works on any type of mental crippling whether spelled or from a natural power. How long have I been manipulated?

Vendetta: Years.

Explain.

Peacemaker: We thought you were going into hibernation.

Vendetta: We didn’t think anything about it until you started ‘forgetting’ things.

Peacemaker: Even when we reminded you. We knew for sure something was wrong when you took off all your artifacts.

Vendetta: When we questioned you on the choice you ignored us.

Peacemaker: It was like you couldn’t hear us.

Vendetta: We kept trying. Finding trigger words that would start the cycle.

Peacemaker: Places you went that started it.

Started what, precisely?

Vendetta: Fugue state. Forgetting. Restarting a cycle that kept you trapped in the manor like a puppet.

Peacemaker: If Beatrice hadn’t shown up we would be screwed.

Vendetta: This idiot has been harping about you becoming more aware in her presence for a while now.

Peacemaker: We almost had you back with us fully when she was arrested.

It would take a mixture of spells to accomplish such a feat. A certain amount of time would have to pass for it to ferment and become powerful enough to affect me. To create a mental cycle that enforces me to remain in the proximity of the spell is powerful.

It seems the mental repel artifact might lose potency through prolonged exposure. The thin band of silver is a false comfort for the moment.

Vendetta: Get out of the manor. That is the focal point.

Peacemaker: Beatrice broke the cycle with her presence alone. Everyone has been leaving the manor the last few weeks.

Vendetta: When she healed you, it brought you back but the longer you stayed here the more it began to take root again.

They catch me up on my lost time as I clean up and prepare to break her from the cell she has chosen to hide from me in. Not that I will allow a few measly guards and some metal to keep me away from her.

This has been affecting everyone?

Vendetta: Go downstairs and see for yourself.

Peacemaker: No! We need Beatrice!

Agreed. If she had been mending whatever was affecting each of us, it would be foolish to test without her presence.

Vendetta: We haven’t been infected.

Noted.

Peacemaker: Not that it helped us any since we’re attached to you.

It would have to be extremely potent to affect King considering his natural power is connected to mental manipulation. He should have noticed straight away.

Peacemaker: Unless he was infected first.

Vendetta: Unless he’s the one doing it.

Regardless. There can be no interrogation with a brainwashed person. Finding who has been affected will be more efficient. Once healed we may begin to investigate.

Peacemaker: We know Mal is with King constantly. And Iris but fuck her. Kimi is so bad now it isn’t worth talking to him.

Vendetta: Mal’s anger levels have gone beyond the normal and Iris's seduction of us has increased tenfold.
